Nearly four months after 12-year-old Xavier Taylor was critically injured during a baseball warmup in Maple Shade, New Jersey, his family says he continues to make progress — even though the road ahead remains long and uncertain.

SMALL CHANGES, BIG HOPE

Xavier was injured on May 26, when he was struck by a baseball while warming up before a championship game. He was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where he remained in critical condition for months.

Now, his family says there are changes that give them renewed hope.

According to his father, Gregory Taylor, Xavier has gained weight and looks much stronger than he did during the earliest weeks of his recovery. His body is also regulating more functions on its own, and he no longer requires many of the medications he previously needed.

For a family that has spent months waiting and praying, those changes carry enormous meaning.

A NEW STAGE IN HIS RECOVERY

Xavier has since been moved from the hospital to a short-term care facility, while he remains on a ventilator. His family continues to stay close and focus on each sign of progress.

His father has repeatedly emphasized the importance of hope, saying the family still believes Xavier can recover.

The latest updates do not mean that his recovery is complete, and doctors have not announced a timeline for what comes next. But compared with the uncertainty of the first weeks, the improvements described by his family have given supporters another reason to keep believing.

A COMMUNITY THAT HAS NEVER STOPPED SHOWING UP

Since the accident, support for Xavier has reached far beyond his hometown.

Baseball teams and communities across New Jersey rallied around the Taylor family, while vigils, fundraisers and other tributes were organized in his honor. More than $100,000 has reportedly been raised to support the family during his lengthy recovery.

The support has also included public displays of encouragement, with the Ben Franklin Bridge and Camden City Hall illuminated in blue earlier in the summer.

EVERY STEP MATTERS

For Xavier’s family, recovery is no longer measured in dramatic changes from one day to the next.

It is measured in small signs — a stronger body, fewer medications, improved natural functions and the continued presence of the boy they know and love.

Those improvements cannot predict exactly what the future will bring. But for Gregory Taylor and everyone who has followed Xavier’s journey, they represent something deeply important: there is still hope.

Four months after a devastating accident changed his family’s life, Xavier’s recovery continues one day at a time.
