THE FINAL MOMENTS OF MYA AND SIGMUND’S RESCUE — NEW DETAILS HELP RECONSTRUCT WHAT HAPPENED

Newly reported details are helping investigators piece together the moments after 9-year-old Mya Golabek and 7-year-old Sigmund Golabek entered Barnegat Bay following the July 19 boat crash.

According to reporting, both children were wearing life jackets when they entered the water. Their grandparents pulled them from the bay and began emergency efforts before they were taken for medical treatment.

One detail that initially caused confusion was a life jacket found beside one of the children. A local official explained that the safety equipment may have been removed while CPR was being performed, meaning its location alone does not establish whether the child had been wearing it beforehand.

The crash occurred after Stephen Schneider’s boat struck a channel marker in Barnegat Bay. Schneider now faces charges related to the incident, while the case continues through the courts.

The precise sequence of those first minutes remains an important part of understanding what happened that night.
