HE LOST HIS FACE… BUT HE FOUND A NEW LIFE AGAIN In 2008, Dallas Wiens was doing what he did every day — working hard to provide for his family.
While painting a church in Fort Worth, Texas, a terrible accident changed his life forever. A high-voltage power line struck him, causing devastating burns that took away the face he had always known.
When Dallas woke up, everything had changed. 
He had lost his nose, lips, and much of the tissue on his face. The accident also left him permanently blind.
But Dallas survived.
Through more than 20 surgeries, doctors fought to save his life. Yet rebuilding a face that could help him live normally again seemed almost impossible.
Until one historic day…
In March 2011, more than 30 surgeons, nurses, and specialists at Brigham and Women’s Hospital performed a groundbreaking operation that lasted over 15 hours.
Using donated tissue from another person, they gave Dallas a new nose, new lips, new facial skin, muscles, and nerves.
It became the first full face transplant ever performed in the United States. 
The surgery could not bring back his eyesight.
But it gave him something he thought he had lost forever — a chance to truly live again.
Slowly, Dallas began to feel the world around him.
He could smell again.
He regained sensation in his new face.
And after months of recovery, he smiled for the first time.

He could finally feel his young daughter’s kisses on his cheek again.

Then, two years after his transplant, Dallas found another unexpected gift.
He married Jamie Nash, a fellow burn survivor he met in a support group.
And their wedding took place at the same Fort Worth church where his accident had happened years before.
The place that once represented the darkest moment of his life became the place where he began a beautiful new chapter.
