๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’” 5-Year-Old Girl Survives More Than 30 Hours Alone After Colorado Crash Claims Her Parents

A five-year-old Colorado girl is recovering after surviving more than 30 hours alone inside a crashed pickup truck that was hidden from view following a devastating highway accident.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash occurred near Highway 160 outside Bayfield when a blue Chevrolet S10 left the roadway, rolled over, and came to rest upside down in an area not visible to pแด€ssing drivers. Investigators believe the incident happened at approximately 6:00 a.m. the day before the vehicle was discovered.

The truck remained unnoticed until around 12:30 p.m. on May 2, when emergency responders located the wreckage.

Inside the vehicle was 5-year-old Kayce Griffin, who had endured the ordeal while waiting beside her parents. Authorities identified the adults as Devante Griffin, 25, and Klariza Tarango, 24, who were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Despite the extraordinary circumstances, Kayce suffered only minor injuries. First responders described an emotional rescue, explaining that the young girl was able to climb a nearby hill and walk toward emergency personnel once help arrived.

She was transported to Mercy Hospital in Durango for evaluation and treatment before later being released into the care of her grandfather, who is now looking after her following the family’s heartbreaking loss.

Investigators reported that Kayce had been riding in a child safety seat, although officials noted she was not properly restrained at the time of the collision. Authorities also confirmed that neither adult occupant was wearing a seatbelt.

The Colorado State Patrol stated that there is currently no indication that alcohol, drugs, excessive speed, or criminal activity contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue examining all available evidence to better understand the circumstances.

Emergency responders from the Upper Pine River Fire Protection District described the incident as both deeply tragic and remarkably inspiring. While mourning the loss of two young parents, they also highlighted Kayce’s resilience and the importance of proper child pแด€ssenger safety.

A fundraising campaign has since been established to support Kayce and her family. Organizers noted that she also has a sibling who was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

The heartbreaking event has drawn widespread attention across the country, with many expressing sympathy for the family while celebrating the courage and determination shown by the young survivor.

Authorities hope the case will also serve as an important reminder about seatbelt use, proper child restraint systems, and continued awareness of roadway safety, especially on rural highways where crashes may remain hidden for extended periods before being discovered.
