A five-year-old Colorado girl is recovering after surviving more than 30 hours alone inside a crashed pickup truck that was hidden from view following a devastating highway accident.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the crash occurred near Highway 160 outside Bayfield when a blue Chevrolet S10 left the roadway, rolled over, and came to rest upside down in an area not visible to pᴀssing drivers. Investigators believe the incident happened at approximately 6:00 a.m. the day before the vehicle was discovered.

The truck remained unnoticed until around 12:30 p.m. on May 2, when emergency responders located the wreckage.

Despite the extraordinary circumstances, Kayce suffered only minor injuries. First responders described an emotional rescue, explaining that the young girl was able to climb a nearby hill and walk toward emergency personnel once help arrived.

She was transported to Mercy Hospital in Durango for evaluation and treatment before later being released into the care of her grandfather, who is now looking after her following the family’s heartbreaking loss.
