A South Texas family is once again asking for prayers as teenager Ryan Rodriguez undergoes another brain surgery, continuing a medical journey that has tested their faith, strength, and hope for nearly two years.

Ryan’s story began after a basketball-related injury eventually led doctors to discover a rare arteriovenous malformation (AVM), an abnormal connection of blood vessels deep within his brain. Earlier this year, he underwent a complex surgical procedure intended to treat the condition.

However, instead of beginning a straightforward recovery, Ryan experienced serious complications that required ongoing intensive medical care.

According to an update shared by his older sister, Vianey, doctors recently determined that excess fluid continues to build around Ryan’s brain. To address the problem, surgeons have now performed another procedure to place a shunt designed to drain the fluid and reduce pressure on his brain.

While the family continues facing significant uncertainty, they have also witnessed several encouraging developments that have strengthened their hope.

Vianey shared that Ryan has opened his left eye, made small movements with both his arms and feet, and has responded to voices and gentle stimulation by blinking. Although physicians cannot yet determine exactly what these responses may indicate for his long-term recovery, each small milestone has become an important source of encouragement for his loved ones.

The emotional toll has been especially difficult for Ryan’s family, who continue taking each day one step at a time.

One person who has rarely left Ryan’s side is his younger sister, Anyssa. According to Vianey, the siblings have always shared a close bond, and Anyssa has remained at the hospital day and night, offering constant love and support throughout his recovery.
