Brazil Rope Jump Death: Investigation Continues After Fatal 40-Meter Fall at “Skeleton Bridge”

Authorities in Brazil are continuing to investigate the death of 21-year-old Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, who died following a rope-jump incident at the so-called “Skeleton Bridge” in Limeira, São Paulo.

According to reports being examined by investigators, the woman fell approximately 40 meters during the activity after what is alleged to have been a failure in the safety procedure. Officials are reviewing claims that a critical safety rope may not have been properly secured at the time of the jump.

Emergency responders and a witness described attempts to ᴀssist the victim immediately after the fall, but she later succumbed to her injuries. Authorities have not released full medical details publicly, but the incident has been classified as a fatal accident under active investigation.

Police have detained three individuals connected to the operation. Investigators are currently ᴀssessing operational records, equipment procedures, and witness statements to determine whether negligence or criminal responsibility played a role in the incident.

Reports circulating online claim that staff gave conflicting or unclear accounts during questioning; however, authorities have not officially confirmed these statements or any final findings regarding accountability.

The case has sparked widespread public debate in Brazil and internationally over safety standards in extreme sports and adventure tourism, particularly at unregulated or poorly supervised locations.

Officials have stressed that the investigation is ongoing and that no final legal determination has been made regarding charges, responsibility, or intent.
