💕👶 BORN 15 WEEKS TOO SOON, LITTLE ADA HAS SPENT ALMOST HER ENTIRE FIRST YEAR IN THE HOSPITAL — ALL SHE WANTS IS TO GO HOME 🏡💙
When little Ada Reid Watts entered the world on October 9, she was so tiny that her parents could hardly believe how small their daughter was.

Born almost 15 weeks premature, Ada weighed just 1 pound 5 ounces (595 grams). 👶💔

She was incredibly fragile.

Her parents, Justin and Jordan Watts, lovingly gave her the nickname “Elf on the Shelf” because of her tiny size. 🧝‍♀️❤️

But from the very beginning, Ada’s journey would be filled with challenges.

🏥💔 A HOSPITAL BECAME HER HOME
Instead of bringing their newborn daughter home, Justin and Jordan watched as Ada spent almost her entire life receiving care at Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham.

For months, doctors and nurses became part of her everyday world.

There were repeated infections.

Breathing difficulties.

Intensive medical treatments.

And countless days when her parents could do little more than wait, hope and pray. 🙏💙

For most babies, the first year of life is filled with cuddles at home, family gatherings and discovering the world.

For Ada, much of that first year happened inside a hospital room. 🏥🥹

But despite everything her tiny body had endured, she kept fighting.

💕🌈 THEN HER FAMILY FINALLY SAW A WAY HOME
More recently, Ada received a tracheostomy to help support her breathing.

Slowly, she began making encouraging progress. 💪💙

For the first time, something that had once seemed almost impossible started to feel real.

Going home. 🏡✨

Her parents began imagining the moment they could finally take their little girl out of the hospital.

They could picture her sleeping in her own room.

They could imagine holding her without hospital monitors surrounding them.

They could finally begin experiencing ordinary family life together. 🥹❤️

After everything they had been through, that dream felt incredibly close.

Then came another setback.

😢🦠 JUST WHEN HOME FELT CLOSE
Ada tested positive for rhinovirus and also developed a urinary tract infection.

Her oxygen requirements increased significantly.

She became unusually tired as her tiny body worked hard to recover. 💔🏥

For Justin and Jordan, the setback was heartbreaking.

They had been so excited because Ada’s condition had been improving.

Home had finally begun to feel tangible.

And suddenly, they had to wait again. 😢

But her parents refused to lose hope.

They understood that Ada needed to be strong enough before she could safely leave the hospital.

So they continued doing what they had done since the day she was born:

waiting, trusting and loving their little girl. ❤️‍🩹

🥹💙 “WE JUST WANT TO BRING OUR BABY GIRL HOME”
For Ada’s parents, the dream has always been simple.

They don’t need anything extraordinary.

They don’t need a perfect first birthday.

And although the wait has been incredibly difficult, they continue to trust the doctors caring for their daughter.

Throughout Ada’s long hospital journey, her doctors and nurses have become much more than medical professionals.

They have cared for Ada through infections, breathing problems, procedures and countless difficult days.

They have watched her grow from an extraordinarily tiny premature newborn into a little girl who is still fighting toward the life waiting for her outside the hospital.

Her parents remain deeply grateful to everyone who has helped their daughter come this far. 🙏💕

🌸👣 ONE DAY, SHE WILL WALK OUT THOSE DOORS
For now, Ada’s family continues to wait in Birmingham.

The road has been much longer than they ever imagined.

Her first birthday is approaching, yet she is still waiting for something many families take for granted:

But every day she remains strong is another step forward.

Every improvement matters.

Every breath matters.
