At just 18 years old, Ramon Barreto is waking up to a reality he never could have imagined.

The Texas teenager had recently graduated from high school in Ennis, Texas, and had celebrated his 18th birthday less than a month earlier. He should have been looking ahead to the next chapter of his life.

Instead, Ramon is recovering in a Dallas hospital after a devastating dirt bike accident left him facing the loss of his right hand and forearm.

According to his family, Ramon was riding as a pᴀssenger on a dirt bike with friends near Ferris, Texas, when the vehicle crashed.

During the accident, Ramon’s right arm became trapped beneath the machine. The injuries were severe, and he suffered significant blood loss.

His friends immediately rushed to help. They worked together to lift the heavy Razor from Ramon and applied pressure to his injured arm while waiting for emergency responders to arrive.

Ramon was then transported to a Dallas hospital, where doctors spent hours performing surgery in an effort to save his arm.

Despite their efforts, the injuries were too extensive.

After three surgeries, Ramon survived the traumatic accident, but doctors ultimately had to amputate his right hand and forearm.

His godmother, Iris, reached out hoping to surround Ramon with encouragement and support as he begins what could be a long and challenging recovery.

Although his prognosis for survival is positive, the physical recovery is only one part of the journey ahead.

Ramon will face rehabilitation and physical therapy, along with the possibility of chronic pain. Eventually, he will need to learn how to use a prosthetic and adapt to everyday activities in ways he has never had to consider before.
