A deeply disturbing note recovered from Lindsay Clancy’s phone has been presented to jurors in her murder trial, offering a glimpse into the thoughts and emotional struggles she documented months before the deaths of her three children.

Clancy, a former nurse, is accused of killing her children—5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and eight-month-old Callan—at the family’s home in Duxbury, Mᴀssachusetts, in January 2023. She has acknowledged causing their deaths but has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, with her defense citing postpartum psychosis.

📱 On Thursday, Mᴀssachusetts State Police testified about data extracted from Clancy’s iPhone, including what appeared to be a personal journal. One entry dated October 25, 2022, described complicated emotions surrounding motherhood and her relationship with her children.

In the note, Clancy wrote that she felt conflicted and at times resentful because caring for her older children made it difficult for her to devote the same attention to her youngest child, Callan.

She also wrote about feeling sad and depressed, expressing concern that she was no longer breastfeeding and felt less connected to her baby.

💔 At the same time, the note revealed that Clancy was deeply afraid something could happen to her children or that she might unintentionally affect their development.

She reportedly wrote about wanting to feel love and connection with all three children and described an internal conflict over whether she wanted to have another baby.

The journal entry also mentioned her uncertainty about beginning new medication for anxiety and depression, alongside her desire to feel happy again.

⚖️ The note is now being examined as part of the larger question at the heart of the trial: what was Clancy’s mental state before and during the events of January 2023?

While prosecutors and defense attorneys may interpret the evidence differently, jurors are being asked to consider the circumstances surrounding the killings and the competing claims about Clancy’s mental condition.

During the reading of the note, Clancy reportedly lowered her head and covered her face at the defense table.

📲 Other messages presented in court showed communication between Clancy and her mother in the weeks leading up to the killings. On January 12, 2023, her mother reportedly asked whether she was still feeling somewhat better. Clancy replied that she was feeling “a little bit” better.

Two days later, she reportedly told her mother that she was “hanging in there” and waiting for the day she would wake up feeling like herself again.

🏠 Mᴀssachusetts State Police lead investigator Josh McKelligan also briefly testified about the condition of the Clancy home on the day of the killings. Jurors were shown footage recorded inside the primary bedroom.

The trial was then adjourned for the remainder of the week and is expected to resume Monday morning.
