When Andrew and Lacey Jackson welcomed their daughter Natalie into the world on January 9, they expected an ordinary first glimpse of their newborn.

Instead, they noticed a striking dark birthmark covering a large portion of the left side of her face.

At first, Lacey was worried. The mark looked almost like a bruise, and she wondered whether something might have happened during pregnancy. But doctors quickly reᴀssured the new mother that it was a birthmark and that Natalie was otherwise healthy and breathing normally.

As Lacey held her newborn daughter, however, another thought began to enter her mind.

She wondered whether people might focus on the mark instead of seeing the beautiful little girl behind it.

That was when she made a promise to her daughter.

She and Andrew would make sure Natalie grew up knowing how loved and beautiful she was — and that being different could never stop her from pursuing her dreams. 💗

Natalie’s two older brothers, Elliott, 7, and Devin, 4, quickly gave their baby sister a special superhero idenтιтy.

When they asked about the dark mark on her face, their mother explained that it was her superhero mask. 🦇✨

The nickname stuck.

Natalie underwent several medical evaluations after birth, including examinations by an ophthalmologist and dermatology specialists, as well as an MRI scan. Her parents wanted to make sure the birthmark was not affecting her eyesight or overall health.

Doctors explained that the mark would grow as Natalie grows. They also told the family that her condition could come with certain health considerations, including an increased risk of melanoma, making ongoing medical monitoring important.

Despite those concerns, her parents have chosen to embrace the birthmark rather than hide it.

Sometimes strangers stare when they see Natalie in public, but her family refuses to let those reactions define her.

Instead, they want her to grow up understanding that being different is nothing to be ashamed of.

“We’ll always tell her it’s part of who she is,” her mother said.

And that message is already becoming part of Natalie’s story.

Her family hopes the distinctive mark will never be something she feels she needs to hide, but instead something that reminds her of her strength, individuality and the unconditional love surrounding her. 💕🦇

To her parents, Natalie isn’t defined by the mark on her face.
