Sage’s mother, Jamie Wilson, had only stepped inside the house for a few minutes.

When she returned outside, she was horrified.

Jamie immediately rushed to get her husband, Blake, and called for emergency help.

While the family was trying to get Sage to the hospital, emergency responders instructed them to stop and wait for an ambulance.

Sage was then airlifted to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, where doctors rushed him into emergency surgery. 🏥🚁

🏥💔 A SERIOUS HEAD INJURY
Doctors discovered that Sage had suffered a severe head injury and skull fracture.

Gravel and debris had become lodged in his wound and skull, creating dangerous pressure near his brain.

During his first surgery, doctors spent approximately three hours cleaning the wound and removing the debris. 🩺

Sage would eventually undergo three surgeries, including a procedure to remove additional gravel and a complex skin graft.

Doctors transferred skin from one side of his scalp to another to help repair the extensive wound. ❤️‍🩹

The injury also left him with a skull fracture and permanent scarring.

He will not grow hair over some of the affected areas of his scalp.

Despite the severity of his injuries, Sage survived.
