According to the California City Police Department, Fernando Torres Moreno was spending time at Central Park with his 8-year-old sister on June 18 when the incident unfolded.

Investigators say three dogs allegedly chased the children, triggering a desperate attempt to get away. As they fled, Fernando’s younger sister was reportedly attacked and suffered serious injuries.

In an effort to escape the dogs, Fernando jumped into a nearby lake.

Tragically, he never resurfaced.
