đź’” One Little Girl Survived: Florida Family Tragedy Leaves a Child Without Her Mother and Sisters

A quiet Florida community is still struggling to comprehend a devastating family tragedy that claimed the lives of four relatives and left one young child facing a future without her mother, grandmother and two sisters.

On August 13, Plant City Police Chief Richard Mills Jr. announced that authorities had officially concluded their investigation into the deaths, which occurred on May 3. Police determined that the case was a murder-suicide involving 27-year-old Hailey Dempsey and members of her family.

According to investigators, Dempsey’s mother, 55-year-old Valerie DeBoe, was the first family member to lose her life at the family’s Plant City home.

The tragedy then continued as Dempsey left the residence with her three young daughters. The children were only 4 years old, 2 years old and 4 months old — ages when they depended entirely on the adults around them. 🧸💔

Authorities determined that Dempsey later caused the deaths of her 4-year-old daughter, Belle, and her 4-month-old daughter, Kelsey, before taking her own life.

Her 2-year-old daughter survived unharmed.

That survival has become one of the most heartbreaking elements of the case. One little girl is now growing up after losing four members of her immediate family — her mother, grandmother and two sisters.

The investigation took several months as detectives worked to reconstruct the family’s final days and determine what had happened.

Police said digital evidence indicated that Dempsey had been experiencing mental health struggles. However, investigators were unable to establish a specific motive that fully explained the tragedy.

That leaves difficult questions behind for those who knew the family.

What was happening inside the household before May 3? What was Dempsey experiencing in the days leading up to the tragedy? Could anyone have recognized how serious the situation had become?

Authorities may never be able to answer every question.

The investigation also brought clarity for the children’s father, who had faced intense public suspicion following the tragedy. Police ultimately determined that he was not a suspect.

For the Plant City community, the case represents an unimaginable loss — not simply because four people are gone, but because two of those lives belonged to children whose futures had barely begun.

The surviving 2-year-old now faces a childhood unlike the one anyone could have imagined for her.

She will grow up without the people who should have watched her learn, laugh, celebrate birthdays and discover the world.

🕊️ Four lives were lost. One little girl survived. And an entire community is left grieving for a family that should have had many more years together.
