A 17-year-old Mᴀssachusetts teenager has been accused of killing his mother and younger brother after prosecutors said he had previously used an AI chatbot to create disturbing fictional stories involving the killing of his family.

Arjun Aravind, 17, was charged in connection with the deaths of his mother, Sudha Venkatesan, 45, and his 14-year-old brother, Siddharth Aravind, who were found ᴅᴇᴀᴅ inside their Acton home Tuesday evening, according to prosecutors.

Authorities said Aravind, a student at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, had recently displayed behavior that raised concerns. MiddleSєx County District Attorney Marian Ryan said he had allegedly used ChatGPT to develop what were described as theoretical ideas or fictional stories about killing members of his family.

Prosecutors said the stories were described as having a dark, “gothic novel” style. 🕯️

The victims were discovered around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after Aravind’s father contacted police when a tutor was unable to enter the family’s home.

The father reportedly said he had last spoken with his wife that morning before leaving for work. His younger son was reportedly last seen around noon.

When officers conducted a welfare check, they found Siddharth on the first floor and his mother in the basement.

Aravind had reportedly left the residence in his mother’s 2014 Honda Accord, prompting police to alert surrounding law-enforcement agencies.

Early Wednesday morning, officers in nearby Wayland found the vehicle outside a business with Aravind inside. He was taken into custody without incident. 🚔

“This is an unspeakable tragedy,” District Attorney Ryan said.

The official causes of death are expected to be determined by the medical examiner. Authorities have not publicly disclosed whether a firearm or another type of weapon was involved.

Aravind faces two counts of murder along with multiple ᴀssault and battery charges and motor-vehicle-related charges. He was arraigned on the motor-vehicle charges, while the murder case remains ongoing.

The allegations have left the local community shaken, as investigators continue working to understand what happened inside the family home and what may have preceded the deaths. 💔🕊️
