A heartfelt social media post written by Stony Brook University doctoral student Victoria Castle has resurfaced following the arrest of her brother-in-law, Joseph Horner, in a case that has shocked communities across Long Island.

Castle, 25, was remembered by friends and classmates as an intelligent and compᴀssionate young woman whose promising academic career was cut short. Her Facebook message, posted after her sister’s wedding several years ago, has taken on new significance after prosecutors charged Horner with murder and rape in connection with her death.

According to authorities, Horner, 27, has been charged with second-degree murder and rape following the June 29 incident at a multi-family home in North Mᴀssapequa.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and remains held without bail. Under New York law, Horner is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Among the details drawing public attention is a Facebook post Castle shared after her sister married Horner.
