Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said the case is still receiving significant investigative attention and that he remains confident authorities will eventually find answers. Investigators are working with laboratories across the country to analyze DNA evidence collected during the investigation, while also reviewing a large amount of video footage and other information.

Nanos’ latest comments came shortly after Savannah Guthrie, Nancy’s daughter and a co-anchor of NBC’s “Today,” released an emotional video appeal directed at the person responsible for her mother’s disappearance. Savannah urged that person to come forward, saying it is not too late to do the right thing and help bring her family’s long search for answers to an end.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on Feb. 1, 2026, after she failed to appear at church. Investigators said evidence at her Tucson home indicated that she may have been taken against her will. Authorities have continued to describe the case as a suspected abduction.

The investigation has involved local authorities, the FBI and forensic laboratories examining evidence from Nancy’s home and surrounding area. Investigators have also continued working through thousands of tips, surveillance recordings and other potential leads.

Sheriff Nanos has acknowledged that processing the forensic evidence is time-consuming, particularly because investigators are dealing with DNA that requires extensive analysis and comparison. However, he has repeatedly rejected the idea that the case has gone cold.

The sheriff’s latest message offers a cautious note of optimism for the Guthrie family, but authorities have not publicly identified a suspect or announced an arrest in connection with Nancy’s disappearance.
