William B. “Will” Roberts, a 15-year-old from Ralph, Alabama, is being remembered for the courage, faith and determination he showed during an extended battle with Stage IV osteosarcoma.

Will was diagnosed with the rare bone cancer in January 2025. Over the following 18 months, he underwent chemotherapy, radiation and multiple surgeries, including an operation that resulted in the loss of his leg. He later learned to walk again with a prosthetic.

Throughout his treatment, Will’s story reached people far beyond his hometown. Family updates and appeals for support brought together thousands of people who offered prayers, encouragement and donations as he pursued treatment in Alabama, Texas and California.

Will pᴀssed away on July 23, 2026, at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. His family remembered him not simply for the illness he faced, but for his personality, faith, love of family, fishing and hunting, and ability to make people around him laugh.

His story also received recognition across Alabama. Gov. Kay Ivey proclaimed August 1, 2026, as Will Roberts Day, describing him as a young man whose courage inspired people across the state and beyond.

For those who followed Will’s journey, his legacy extends beyond his medical battle. His family has encouraged people to remember the way he lived — with faith, humor, love for those around him and determination through difficult circumstances.

Will’s life was brief, but the impact of his story continues through the family, friends and supporters who carry his memory forward.
