Pope Leo XIV Warns: “Never Instrumentalize God for Military, Economic, or Political Gain”!lh

In a strong and deeply reflective address at the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV warned world leaders and societies “never to instrumentalize God for military, economic, or political gain,” calling such actions a distortion of faith and a danger to humanity.

Speaking before pilgrims and members of the diplomatic corps, the Pope said religion must never be used to justify violence, oppression, nationalism, or exploitation. He emphasized that authentic faith should lead people toward peace, justice, compᴀssion, and respect for human dignity rather than division and conflict.

“When God is manipulated for power,” Pope Leo declared, “faith loses its true face and becomes an instrument of fear.” His remarks came amid continuing global tensions, armed conflicts, and growing concerns over the use of religious language in political rhetoric across various regions of the world.

The Pontiff also criticized economic systems that place profit above human life and warned against political movements that attempt to exploit religious idenтιтy for influence or control. He urged believers of all faiths to reject extremism and to promote dialogue, solidarity, and reconciliation instead.

The Pope concluded with an appeal for global unity, inviting religious leaders and political authorities alike to work together “not for domination, but for the service of humanity and the protection of peace.”
