Pope Leo XIV: “If Someone Criticizes Me for Proclaiming the Gospel, Let Him Do So Truthfully!lh

In a candid and reflective address at the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV responded to criticism surrounding his public ministry by stating, “If someone criticizes me for proclaiming the Gospel, let him do so truthfully.”
Speaking before clergy and pilgrims, the Pope acknowledged that preaching the Christian message often provokes debate, misunderstanding, and opposition, especially in a world deeply divided by politics, ideology, and cultural tensions. However, he insisted that the Church must never abandon its mission to proclaim truth, mercy, and human dignity.

“The Gospel does not belong to personal ambition or political interest,” Pope Leo said. “It must be announced with humility, courage, and honesty.” He emphasized that criticism can be legitimate and even helpful when it is rooted in sincerity and respect rather than distortion or hostility.
The Pontiff also warned against misinformation and public discourse driven by anger or manipulation, encouraging Christians to respond to criticism not with resentment but with patience and integrity. His remarks were widely interpreted as a call for more honest dialogue both inside and outside the Church.

Concluding the audience, Pope Leo XIV urged believers to remain faithful to the teachings of Christ even amid opposition, reminding the faithful that “truth and charity must always walk together.”
