PART 2: THE VOICE BEHIND THE SECRET

PART 2: THE VOICE BEHIND THE SECRET

Nobody moved.

The recording continued.

Evelyn’s voice was unmistakable.

“Once she leaves, nobody will believe anything she says.”

The man’s voice answered:

“Then make sure Daniel thinks she stole the money.”

My husband’s face went white.

He stared at his mother.

“You planned this?”

Evelyn shook her head.

“You don’t understand.”

“Then explain it!”

She couldn’t.

The recording continued.

The man revealed that Evelyn had been secretly transferring money from a family account.

She had been using Daniel’s name without his knowledge.

But that wasn’t the worst part.

The money wasn’t being spent on herself.

It had been transferred into an account belonging to the man on the recording.

Daniel suddenly recognized the details.

That account belonged to his mother’s financial adviser.

A man he had trusted for years.

Daniel grabbed the phone from my hand.

“Keep playing.”

The final part of the recording revealed everything.

Evelyn had discovered that I had accidentally captured part of their conversation.

She had panicked.

Her plan was simple:

Accuse me of stealing $500.

Turn the entire family against me.

Force Daniel to divorce me.

Then use the scandal to make sure nobody believed anything I said about the missing money.

Daniel slowly turned toward his mother.

“You tried to destroy my marriage to hide your own theft?”

Evelyn began crying.

“I was protecting this family.”

“No,” Daniel said quietly.

“You were protecting yourself.”

His father looked at him.

“Daniel, there’s something else.”

He opened a drawer and pulled out several bank statements.

“I’ve been investigating these transfers for months.”

Evelyn’s face collapsed.

The room fell silent.

Then Daniel looked at me.

His eyes were filled with shame.

“I should have defended you.”

I looked at him.

“You should have believed me.”

He lowered his head.

“I know.”

I picked up my phone.

Then I walked toward the door.

Behind me, Evelyn called my name.

“Please don’t leave.”

I stopped.

But I didn’t turn around.

“You dragged me across the floor and accused me of stealing because you were afraid I’d tell the truth.”

I looked back at her.

“The truth always comes out eventually.”

Then I walked away.

And this time, Daniel didn’t stay silent.

He followed me.

Not because his mother had been exposed.

But because he had finally realized that the woman he had failed to protect had been telling the truth all along.
