Camilla stared at Enzo as though she couldn’t believe what she had just heard.

“You’re ending our engagement… because of a maid?”

Enzo didn’t answer immediately.

He looked at Adeline.

She was still shaking beneath his coat, trying desperately not to cry.

Then he turned toward the crowd.

“Who saw what happened?”

Silence.

Two hundred people suddenly found the marble floor very interesting.

Enzo’s expression hardened.

“That’s what I thought.”

He walked toward the nearest table and picked up a security tablet.

“Play the corridor footage.”

The screen lit up.

There it was.

Camilla ordering Adeline to kneel.

Camilla striking her.

Camilla laughing while several guests watched.

And then something nobody expected appeared on the recording.

Adeline hadn’t insulted Camilla.

She hadn’t stolen anything.

She had taken the champagne glᴀss because Camilla had become unsteady after drinking too much.

She had been trying to prevent her from falling.

Enzo watched the footage without saying a word.

Then he noticed something else.

The maid’s uniform was torn at the sleeve.

He looked at Camilla.

“You told everyone she embarrᴀssed you.”

Camilla swallowed.

“She disrespected me.”

“No.”

His voice dropped.

“You were embarrᴀssed because a woman you considered beneath you showed more dignity than you did.”

A murmur moved through the ballroom.

Camilla’s face turned red.

“You can’t humiliate me like this!”

Enzo looked down at the engagement ring.

“I didn’t humiliate you.”

He calmly removed the ring from her finger.

“You did that yourself.”

Then he turned toward his security chief.

“Get the medical team. And make sure Adeline is treated immediately.”

But before Enzo could leave, Adeline quietly grabbed his sleeve.

“Mr. Marchetti…”

He turned.

She looked frightened.

“There’s something you need to know.”

“What?”

Adeline glanced toward Camilla.

“She didn’t do this because I embarrᴀssed her.”

Enzo’s eyes narrowed.

“Then why?”

Adeline lowered her voice.

“Because I found something in her private office.”

The room went completely silent.

“What did you find?”

Adeline hesitated.

“A file with your name on it.”

Enzo’s expression changed.
