Neyland Stadium wasn’t just celebrating the Tennessee Volunteers’ 2026 season opener — it became a mᴀssive, emotional tribute to one of Tennessee’s most beloved legends, Dolly Parton.

During the Volunteers’ game against Furman on September 5, players took the field wearing special ʙuттerfly helmet decals honoring Dolly. At halftime, the Pride of the Southland marching band paid tribute with “9 to 5,” while the stadium later erupted as more than 102,000 fans joined in a huge singalong of “I Will Always Love You.”

But the emotional moment came just before the fourth quarter.

Instead of the song traditionally used to launch Tennessee’s fourth quarter, the stadium played Dolly’s “My Tennessee Mountain Home” alongside a montage of memorable Vols moments. The tribute brought a deeply personal feeling to the celebration, connecting Dolly’s music and her Tennessee roots with generations of Vols fans.

The university had already announced that the ʙuттerfly helmet sticker would remain on Tennessee players’ helmets throughout the entire 2026 season, making the tribute much more than a one-night celebration.
