A three-month-old baby girl has d#ied after her family spent the night camping in woodland near Great Wyrley, Staffordshire — and four people have now been arrested as investigators work to establish exactly what happened.

Emergency services were called to land off Strawberry Lane at around 8:45 a.m. on September 5 after receiving a report of a child suffering a medical emergency. Paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service attended alongside the Midlands Air Ambulance, but despite efforts to save her, the baby was pronounced d#ad at the scene.

Police initially described the circumstances as unexplained and said the investigation was still at a very early stage. The area where the family had been staying is woodland beside a fishing lake rather than an official campsite, although the location is known to be used by people who fish, walk and occasionally camp overnight.

Then came the arrests.

Staffordshire Police confirmed that four people had been arrested on suspicion of m#rder: a 42-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman from South Staffordshire, a 20-year-old woman from Wolverhampton and an 18-year-old man from Walsall.

All four were arrested at the scene and have since been released on bail with conditions while the investigation continues. Police have stressed that they are keeping an open mind about the circumstances and are treating the incident as isolated.

Images from the area have since brought renewed attention to the scene. Reports show the remains of a burnt tent, camping equipment, children’s belongings and evidence of a campfire around the woodland clearing. Flowers and other tributes have also been left near the location as members of the community reacted to the little girl’s d#ath.

The discovery has inevitably raised questions about what happened during the family’s overnight stay, but investigators have not publicly confirmed that the fire or any particular item found at the scene caused or contributed to the baby’s d#ath.

Detective Inspector Josh Lee, from Staffordshire Police’s child protection team, has urged people to avoid spreading speculation while detectives gather evidence. Police say they are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and are asking the public to rely on confirmed information rather than online rumours.
