When Kadiatu first held her newborn daughter Almira, she felt an overwhelming love for her baby — along with fear and uncertainty.

She had never seen a baby born with a cleft lip before and didn’t know what the condition would mean for her daughter’s future. 💔

Thankfully, local health workers helped the family understand Almira’s condition and connected them with Mercy Ships, an organization providing specialist surgical care to communities where treatment can be difficult to access.

🏥💗 A JOURNEY THAT TOOK YEARS
For Almira, treatment wasn’t a single operation.

Her cleft lip and palate made feeding difficult during her early childhood, and she needed carefully planned care as she grew.

Over the years, her family traveled for treatment across three separate Mercy Ships missions. Each visit meant medical ᴀssessments, surgery and long periods of waiting before the next stage could begin. 🙏🌷

After three operations, Almira finally completed her planned surgical treatment.
