Pope Leo XIV Speaks on Migration in Lampedusa — “All of Europe Must Hear This”!lh

In a powerful appeal centered on the migrant crisis in Lampedusa, Pope Leo XIV urged Europe not to turn away from the suffering of those risking their lives at sea in search of safety and dignity. Speaking during a Vatican audience, the Pope described the Mediterranean as “a graveyard for too many forgotten souls” and insisted that the tragedy unfolding on Europe’s borders demands a united humanitarian response.

“All of Europe must hear this cry,” Pope Leo declared. “No human being should be treated as disposable, invisible, or unwanted.” He praised rescue workers and local communities in Lampedusa who continue to ᴀssist exhausted migrants arriving from North Africa despite overwhelming pressure and limited resources.

The Pontiff warned against growing indifference toward migrants and refugees, saying fear and political division must never overshadow compᴀssion. He emphasized that migration is not merely a political issue but “a test of human conscience and solidarity.”

Recalling the Church’s long-standing support for displaced people, Pope Leo called for safe migration pathways, international cooperation, and greater protection for vulnerable families and children fleeing war, poverty, and persecution. He concluded by praying that Europe would choose “the path of fraternity over the walls of fear.”
