💔🕯️ Family Remembers Rosemead High School Football Player Aziel Zacapala After Tragic El Monte Stabbing

The Rosemead High School community is grieving the loss of 15-year-old student Aziel Zacapala, a teenager remembered by his family, friends, and teammates as a kind-hearted young man with dreams that were tragically cut short.

Family members identified Aziel as the teen killed after a stabbing outside an elementary school in El Monte on July 10.

According to authorities, the incident happened on Fern Street around 1 p.m. when a fight broke out. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and El Monte Police Department said three people were injured during the incident.

Aziel was taken to a local hospital with stab wounds but was later pronounced ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. Two adult victims who were also injured were treated and were expected to survive.

For those who knew him, Aziel was much more than a victim in an investigation.

He was a beloved son, nephew, friend, and teammate.

Known as “AZ” by classmates at Rosemead High School, Aziel was described by loved ones as a good kid who was full of kindness, ambition, and potential.

A fundraiser created to help his family with funeral expenses shared the impact he had on those around him.

“Aziel was a good kid, full of promise and kindness, and he had big dreams of making it to the big leagues as a football player,” the fundraiser stated.

Football was an important part of Aziel’s life. His family said he had recently been playing the sport with friends at Rosemead Park’s Fourth of July event, just days before his death.

That memory now carries a painful meaning for the people closest to him — a reminder of the teenager who was enjoying the sport he loved and imagining the future ahead.

A candlelight vigil was held at the Rosemead skate park as family members, classmates, teammates, and community members gathered to honor Aziel’s memory.

The original location was moved because investigators were still processing the area where the incident occurred, but the change did not prevent loved ones from coming together.

The gathering became a place for people to share memories, grieve together, and support Aziel’s family during an incredibly difficult time.

At just 15 years old, Aziel had so much life ahead of him.

He should have had more football seasons, more school memories, more friendships, and more opportunities to follow his dreams.

Instead, his family is now preparing to say goodbye while facing unexpected financial challenges.

The fundraiser said Aziel’s mother is currently unemployed and caring for two other young children, including a newborn. It also stated that she had been completing delivery work to help support the family.

As the investigation continues, the Rosemead community continues to remember AZ for the person he was — a teenager with dreams, a bright future, and a place in the hearts of everyone who loved him. 🕊️❤️
