💔🙏 THEIR BABY HASN’T BEEN BORN YET — BUT HIS PARENTS ARE ALREADY FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE

For Caitlyn Shake and her fiancé, Greg, the past several days have been filled with fear, uncertainty and prayer.

Now, they finally have the news they desperately needed.

Caitlyn’s amniocentesis results came back normal.

That means the first-time parents can move forward with an extraordinary attempt to help their unborn son before he ever takes his first breath. 🙏

Caitlyn is currently 28 weeks pregnant.

Her baby boy has been diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, or HLHS, a rare and life-threatening condition in which the left side of the heart is severely underdeveloped.

Doctors are also concerned that an opening allowing blood to flow between the sides of his heart could close before birth, creating an additional threat to the baby’s circulation.

Now Caitlyn and Greg are preparing to travel to Houston, Texas, on Sunday, August 30.

They will spend three days undergoing appointments and testing before their son’s fetal heart surgery, scheduled for September 3 at Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women.

The procedure is an attempt to intervene while their baby is still inside Caitlyn’s womb.

It is an extraordinary medical step — but one that comes with an equally extraordinary amount of fear.

Doctors have warned the family that there is a 20–30% chance they could lose their baby during the procedure or within the following 24 hours. 💔

Caitlyn knows exactly how terrifying that possibility is.

She also knows there is no guarantee that everything will go according to plan.

“We love our baby and want what is best for him,” she said. “We can’t give ourselves false hope that nothing bad will happen.”

There is another detail that makes the upcoming procedure especially difficult for the couple.

Caitlyn will be under anesthesia while doctors operate on their unborn son.

That means Greg could be sitting in a hospital waiting room, waiting to learn whether their baby is okay — potentially receiving the answer before Caitlyn even wakes up.

It is an unimaginable position for any parent to face.

Yet despite the fear, they are moving forward.

They are preparing for every possible outcome while holding onto the hope that this procedure can give their son a better chance.

Yesterday, people prayed alongside Caitlyn and Greg as they waited for the genetic testing results.

Today, they have the answer they needed. ❤️
