“DON’T WORRY, MOM. I’VE GOT THIS.” — 9-YEAR-OLD ZOEY JONES FACES BRAIN SURGERY FOR MOYAMOYA DISEASE
Next Wednesday, August 12, 9-year-old Zoey Jones of Gardendale, Alabama, is scheduled to undergo brain surgery after doctors diagnosed her with Moyamoya disease, a rare condition that affects blood flow to the brain and can increase the risk of strokes and seizures.
Zoey has already spent much of her childhood dealing with sickle cell disease, undergoing blood transfusions, medical procedures and countless hospital visits since she was just 6 months old.
Two years ago, she suffered a stroke. Doctors now hope surgery can improve blood circulation in her brain and reduce the risk of future complications.
But according to her mother, Erin, Zoey refuses to let fear define her.
Whenever her family worries, she often tells them:
“Mom, don’t worry. I’ve got this.”
When she enters the operating room, Zoey hopes to have her favorite stuffed animal, Mr. Piggy, by her side.
Outside the hospital, she is still the same little girl who loves art, cooking, science, jokes and giving enormous hugs. Her family describes her as happy, funny, loving and incredibly resilient.
Now they are asking for prayers for Zoey, her parents Mark and Erin, her siblings, and the medical team caring for her.
