🧠💙 “MOM, DON’T WORRY — I’VE GOT THIS”: 9-Year-Old Zoey’s Five-Hour Surgery Brings New Hope
For five long hours, Erin and Mark Jones waited and prayed as their 9-year-old daughter, Zoey Jones, underwent brain surgery at Children’s of Alabama.
The family knew the procedure was important. They also knew there were risks.
Now, they finally have encouraging news.
Zoey made it through the surgery and is beginning her recovery. 🙏💙
Zoey lives with Sickle Cell Disease, an inherited blood disorder that can cause severe episodes of pain and other serious complications. She also has Moyamoya Disease, a rare condition in which major arteries supplying blood to the brain become narrowed.
Because of the condition, blood flow to the brain can become restricted, increasing the risk of serious neurological complications. Zoey had previously experienced a stroke two years ago.
Her family has spent years navigating the challenges that come with her medical conditions, but her mother says Zoey has continued to show an extraordinary amount of strength and positivity.
“I thought Moyamoya Disease would steal Zoey’s joy, but she’s been very happy and resilient,” Erin said.
And when her mother becomes worried, Zoey has a simple response:
“Mom, don’t worry — I’ve got this.” ❤️
On Wednesday, doctors performed surgery with the goal of improving blood circulation in Zoey’s brain.
For her parents, those five hours must have felt incredibly long.
Then, late that night, Erin shared the update everyone had been waiting for.
“After 5 long hours of surgery, Zoey did GREAT!” she wrote.
Her daughter’s surgeon told the family that the procedure had gone well and that he was able to implant a posterior artery into the affected area of Zoey’s brain.
The next stage will be careful observation and recovery.
Zoey is expected to remain in the PICU for several days, where medical staff can monitor her closely following the procedure.
Her surgeon also identified some vessels toward the middle of the brain that will require particularly close observation over the coming months.
So while the successful surgery represents an important milestone, Zoey’s journey is far from over.
Her family understands that recovery will take patience, time and continued medical care.
But there is also a tremendous sense of graтιтude.
After watching their daughter go through so much, Erin described the family’s emotions following the surgery as difficult to put into words.
She had been nervous throughout the day, but after hearing that the procedure had gone well, she felt deeply thankful.
She also asked supporters to continue praying for Zoey.
For the Jones family, faith has been an important source of strength throughout their daughter’s journey. They believe God has been with Zoey through every difficult moment and are now looking ahead with hope.
And perhaps Zoey’s own words say more than anything else.
“Mom, don’t worry — I’ve got this.”
At nine years old, she has already endured challenges that would be overwhelming for anyone. Yet her family says she continues to bring joy into their lives and refuses to let her medical conditions define who she is.
Now, the focus turns toward recovery.
There will be days of observation in the PICU, months of follow-up care and continued monitoring of the blood vessels in her brain.
But there is also a new reason to hope.
The operation is behind her.
Her family is beside her.
Her medical team is watching over her.
And supporters around the country are continuing to send prayers and encouragement. 🙏💙
Zoey’s story is not simply about a difficult diagnosis or a complex medical procedure.
It is about a little girl whose resilience has inspired everyone around her.
It is about parents who refuse to stop believing in their daughter.
And it is about finding hope even during the longest five hours imaginable.
Now begins the road to recovery — and the Jones family believes Zoey has a bright future ahead. 🌈🕊️💙
Please continue to keep Zoey, her parents and her entire family in your thoughts and prayers as she takes the next steps toward recovery. 🙏❤️
