💔 Two Young Women, Two Families Waiting for Justice: Chicago Murder Case Moves Forward

Two young women whose lives ended about a year apart are at the center of a Chicago criminal case involving the same 21-year-old defendant.

Anthony Nunnally has been ordered held pending trial and faces two first-degree murder charges in connection with the deaths of 19-year-old Sierra Evans and 17-year-old Gabriela Arellano.

Prosecutors allege that Nunnally was dating both young women at the time of their deaths. The cases, which occurred in Chicago’s East Side neighborhood, are now moving forward as authorities present evidence they say connects him to both incidents.

Sierra Evans was found ᴅᴇᴀᴅ after a gathering with friends on September 28, 2024. According to prosecutors, she and Nunnally had been drinking with others before tensions developed inside the group.

Prosecutors allege that an argument followed and that Nunnally became upset with Evans. They say he was eventually asked to leave the residence.

According to the prosecution’s account, Nunnally and Evans left the home, but he later returned. Witnesses reportedly heard a loud sound and later saw him leave the area.

Evans was discovered the following morning in an alley near the 9500 block of South Avenue N.

Investigators later obtained another alleged statement that prosecutors say connected Nunnally to Evans’s death. Authorities allege that months later, while speaking with another girlfriend, he referenced his previous girlfriend and allegedly made a threatening statement.

That alleged statement became significant to investigators after another young woman connected to Nunnally disappeared.

Gabriela Arellano was 17 when she was reported missing by her mother on October 21, 2025. Her mother had last dropped her off at a friend’s home several days earlier.

Prosecutors say Gabriela and Nunnally had been dating for several weeks.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage while reconstructing Gabriela’s final days. Prosecutors said the footage showed Gabriela and Nunnally at a restaurant on October 25 with another person before the group returned to a witness’s home.

Authorities then focused on the early morning hours of October 26.

According to prosecutors, Nunnally and another man were seen looking along the street before allegedly moving toward a vacant lot on South Mackinaw Avenue. Shortly afterward, a nearby Ring camera recorded a loud sound.

Prosecutors allege the two men were then seen leaving the area. Gabriela was later discovered in the vacant lot.

Her disappearance had ended in devastating news for her family.

Nunnally was arrested days later in connection with an unrelated alleged armed carjacking and remained in Cook County Jail.

While he was in custody, prosecutors say investigators obtained another significant piece of evidence. Authorities allege that a cellmate wearing a recording device spoke with Nunnally and captured a conversation in which he allegedly admitted responsibility for Gabriela’s death.

Prosecutors are expected to present that alleged statement alongside surveillance footage, witness accounts, and other evidence as the case proceeds.

The two cases now place the families of Sierra and Gabriela at the center of a long legal process.

Sierra was only 19.

Gabriela was just 17.

Both were young women with lives that should have continued to unfold — with more birthdays, more memories, and more opportunities ahead. 💔

As the court process moves forward, their families are left remembering who they were beyond the allegations and evidence: daughters, loved ones, friends, and young women whose lives mattered deeply to those around them.

⚖️ Nunnally has been ordered held pending trial and remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

For the families, however, no courtroom can restore what was lost.

They can only hope that the legal process brings clarity and accountability while they continue learning how to live with an unimaginable absence.
