Jimmy Hoffa: The Union Boss Who Disappeared After Lunch – Was His Body Really Under the Soccer Field or Golf Course?

On July 30, 1975, Jimmy Hoffa – former president of the American Transportation Workers’ Union (Teamsters), one of the most powerful and controversial figures in American labor history – disappeared after lunch at the Machus Red Fox restaurant in Bloomfield Township, Michigan. He was said to have gone to meet two mafia figures, but no one saw him come out.

More than 50 years have pᴀssed since then, and Hoffa’s body has yet to be found. Hundreds of testimonies, rumors, and exhumations have taken place, but all have ended in vain.

Two of the most famous locations in the legend:

1. Giants Stadium (New Jersey)

This is the most popular rumor. In 1989, a self-proclaimed hitman (Donald “Tony the Greek” Frankos) claimed that Hoffa’s body was dismembered, placed in a container, and buried under Giants Stadium during construction. The rumor spread so widely that the MythBusters program used ground-penetrating radar to investigate in 2004. When the stadium was demolished in 2010, no trace of the body was found. The rumor was officially debunked.

1.  Golf course or driving range
   Some vague accounts mention the body being buried in a golf course or driving range in Michigan or New Jersey. However, there is no concrete evidence or excavation to confirm this hypothesis. This is largely unfounded rumor.

What is the current reality?

Experts and FBI investigators lean towards the possibility that Hoffa’s body was destroyed immediately after his murder to cover up the crime. Some credible testimonies suggest:

• Hoffa was murdered at a nearby house.
• His body was minced (using a meat grinder/sausage grinder) and burned to ashes at a mafia-controlled cleaning company (the site later burned down).

The FBI conducted numerous excavations in Michigan and New Jersey (including a Jersey City landfill in 2022), but found nothing. New investigations continued in 2025, but yielded no results.

In short: There is no evidence to prove Jimmy Hoffa’s body lies beneath any football or golf course. Rumors about Giants Stadium were dispelled when the stadium was demolished. The most likely explanation now is that his body was disposed of by the mafia from the outset to “clean up” the case.
