Jaquisha Beasley was in New Orleans celebrating her birthday when she received the devastating news that her 13-year-old son, Ladarrius Payne, had been involved in a tragic incident back home in Memphis. According to the Memphis Police Department, officers responded to an emergency call around 5:45 p.m. on May 17 in the 2700 block of Ketchum Place. When first responders arrived, they found Ladarrius with a critical injury. Despite emergency efforts, the young teenager could not be saved.

Ladarrius was a seventh-grade honors student at Memphis Academy of Science & Engineering and an enthusiastic football player who competed on multiple youth teams. Friends, relatives, and members of the community remembered him as a respectful, hardworking, and compᴀssionate young boy who had a bright future ahead.

Authorities have announced that a 15-year-old family member has been charged in connection with the case. Because the individual is a minor, officials have not publicly released the teenager’s idenтιтy. Investigators continue working to determine all of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
