Heartbreaking Story of Logan Federico: 22-Year-Old Waxhaw Woman SH๏τ and Killed in Random Columbia Home Invasion During Visit with Friends – Suspect Alexander Dickey Remains in Custody

In a tragic case that highlights the random and devastating nature of violent crime, 22-year-old Logan Federico from Waxhaw, North Carolina, lost her life in what authorities described as a senseless shooting during a suspected home invasion in Columbia, South Carolina. What began as a simple visit to see friends turned into an unimaginable nightmare for her family and loved ones when a suspect on a crime spree broke into the residence where she was staying.

According to the Columbia Police Department, Logan’s body was discovered early on Saturday morning, May 3, 2025, inside a home on Cypress Street. She had traveled to Columbia to spend time with friends. Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford confirmed that Logan died from a single gunsH๏τ wound to the chest, and her death was officially ruled a homicide following an autopsy.

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook provided a detailed account of the incident during a press conference. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Alexander Dickey (also referred to in some reports as Alexander Devonte Dickey), had allegedly embarked on a multi-day crime spree across the Midlands area. Dickey first broke into another home, stealing car keys, a firearm, and other items. He then entered the Cypress Street residence, stole wallets and credit cards, and proceeded to the room where Logan was located, shooting her before fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle.

“The suspect drives away in a stolen vehicle and heads towards West Columbia,” Chief Holbrook stated. “He used stolen credit and debit cards to go to multiple stores in Lexington County.” Dickey was not targeting Logan specifically; as the Chief emphasized, “Logan was a helpless victim, she was not an intended target.”

Dickey was arrested the following day in Lexington County after breaking into yet another home in Gaston and allegedly setting it on fire. He was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center, where he was denied bond. In addition to the murder charge in Richland County related to Logan’s death, he faces multiple other charges connected to the crime spree. As of July 2026, Dickey remains in custody, with his criminal history—including dozens of prior arrests and felony charges—drawing further attention in local discussions about repeat offenders and public safety.

Logan’s father, Stephen Federico, spoke publicly with profound emotion and strength. He described his daughter as a vibrant, fun-loving young woman with a bright future. “I am Logan Federico’s father, better known as dad or her hero. Unfortunately that day, I could not be her hero,” he shared. Addressing the suspect directly on behalf of his daughter, Stephen declared, “You can’t kill my spirit.”

Stephen recounted how Logan was diligently attending school while supporting herself through two jobs. She had a deep love for children and aspired to become a teacher. “She will live on forever, maybe not physically, she will touch people and protect over people,” he said. “Somehow she will have a huge huge decision about what kids life and looking over them. She became goal oriented and worked hard.” He also expressed graтιтude to law enforcement, saying, “I may have lost a daughter, but gained a family.”

A celebration of life service was held for Logan in late May 2025, allowing friends, family, and the community to honor her memory, her kindness, and her dreams of making a difference in the lives of young people. Her story has continued to resonate, appearing in conversations around victim advocacy and crime prevention in the Charlotte and Columbia regions.

Police have stated that the investigation into Logan Federico’s death remains active and ongoing. This case serves as a somber reminder of how quickly life can change and the importance of community vigilance and support for families affected by violence.
