While police did not say in their press release how they found the mother and son, The Los Angeles Times reported that CHP officers found Kazakova’s vehicle near a parking lot around 11:55 a.m. at Wilshire Boulevard and Veteran Avenue in West L.A.

It is unclear whether officers were tipped off about the vehicle, though police noted in their press release that the media’s ᴀssistance “played an important role in raising awareness and helping bring this case to a successful conclusion.”

“The [HPD] extends its sincere graтιтude to the [CHP], the Federal Bureau of Investigation [FBI], and our allied law enforcement partners for their outstanding collaboration, dedication, and swift response in bringing this incident to a safe resolution,” the HPD said in a statement.

PEOPLE has reached out to HPD for comment.

The Amber Alert on the 3-month-old child was issued after police alleged “Kazakova failed to return Maxence to his father as required by a court-ordered custody agreement” on June 30, and “fled to an unknown location.”

Sirois, who was described by police as a “3-month-old male with a bald head, blue eyes, weighs approximately 16 pounds,” was last seen at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, police said in an initial press release.

HPD said that Kazakova, who was described as approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing approximately 128 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, was believed to have been driving “a white 2016 Mazda CX-5 SUV” at the time of the child’s disappearance.

Prior to July 2, the vehicle had been last seen in the Kern County area.
