Investigation Continues After Personal Trainer Elena Moore Found ᴅᴇᴀᴅ in South Carolina

Authorities are continuing to investigate the death of 39-year-old personal trainer Elena Moore after a preliminary autopsy was unable to determine an immediate cause of death.
Moore, who had been reported missing after leaving a gym in Lexington, South Carolina, was found ᴅᴇᴀᴅ several days later in a wooded area. Investigators say additional forensic testing is underway to determine how she died.
Preliminary Autopsy Finds No Visible Injuries
According to the Lexington County Coroner’s Office, a preliminary autopsy found no immediate cause of death and no evidence of external trauma.
Officials reported no visible bruises, cuts, gunsH๏τ wounds, stab wounds, blunt force injuries, or signs of strangulation during the initial examination.

The autopsy was conducted on June 20 at the Medical University of South Carolina. Authorities said further testing—including toxicology, microscopic tissue analysis, and a review of Moore’s medical history—will be necessary before a final cause and manner of death can be determined.
Disappearance Prompted Extensive Search
Moore was last seen on the evening of June 11 after leaving a Planet Fitness gym in Lexington.
Surveillance video reportedly showed her walking through a nearby shopping center parking lot at approximately 9:17 p.m. before heading toward a wooded area behind a Lowe’s store. At the time, she was wearing an olive-green hoodie and black athletic pants.
After she failed to return home, her husband reported her missing the following day.
Law enforcement agencies, firefighters, and search teams launched an extensive search of the surrounding area, using drones and ground crews in an effort to locate her.
Body Located Days Later
On June 17, authorities received information placing Moore near Old Cherokee Road and North Lake Drive.
Search teams responded to the area and discovered a body in a wooded location approximately two miles from the gym where she had last been seen. The clothing matched Moore’s description, and the coroner later confirmed her idenтιтy.
The discovery marked the end of the search but left investigators with new questions as they worked to determine what had occurred.
Investigation Remains Active
Friends have said Moore appeared unusually distressed or disoriented in the days before her disappearance. Some have also shared concerns about her well-being, although investigators have not confirmed those accounts.
Authorities have emphasized that they have not announced evidence of foul play at this stage of the investigation.
Police have also stated that Moore’s husband, who reported her missing, is not considered a suspect or person of interest.
Investigators continue to await the results of additional forensic testing before determining the cause and manner of Moore’s death.
Until those findings are complete, officials say the investigation remains active, and many of the circumstances surrounding Elena Moore’s death have yet to be explained.
