Father Remembers Children’s Final Video Call as Investigation Continues into New York Family Deaths

The father of four children found ᴅᴇᴀᴅ alongside their mother and grandmother in an upstate New York home says they appeared happy during what would become their final conversation.

Brady Harmon recalled speaking with his children during a 15-minute FaceTime call on June 7, just weeks before authorities discovered the family members deceased inside an apartment in Mechanicville.

“They seemed like happy little kids,” Harmon told the New York Post.

Father Was Preparing for Summer Visit
According to Harmon, the call was filled with ordinary family moments.

He said his children eagerly shared parts of their daily lives, with Harper and Gracelynn showing him their drawings, Hudson introducing the family’s cat, and Gavin proudly displaying something he had built.

Although Harmon had not seen his children in person since 2019, he said he had recently been granted two months of custody beginning July 1.

He had planned to travel to New York on June 30 to bring the children to Utah for the summer.

Instead, he said local police came to his home in Salt Lake City to notify him of their deaths.

“They say time heals all wounds, but this is a gaping hole that will never heal,” Harmon told the newspaper.

He said he intends to bury his children in Utah.

Investigation Remains Ongoing
Mechanicville police discovered the bodies of 13-year-old Harper Harmon, 11-year-old Hudson Harmon, 10-year-old twins Gavin and Gracelynn Harmon, their mother, Sarah Myers, 44, and their grandmother, Amy Steadman, inside the residence on Tuesday.

Authorities have not released final autopsy findings for all of the victims.

During a news conference, Mechanicville Police Chief Bill Rabbitt said investigators recovered evidence they believe indicates intentional poisoning, including prescription and over-the-counter medications found inside the home.

Officials also said a handwritten note recovered during the investigation is believed to be significant evidence and is being examined as part of the case.

Investigators have not publicly released the contents of the note.

Law enforcement officials have stated that one child suffered a stab wound, while investigators continue working to determine the causes and manner of death for the remaining victims through forensic testing.

Authorities have not yet released the final results of laboratory examinations or toxicology testing.

Family and Community Mourn
Harmon also reflected on his former mother-in-law, Amy Steadman, saying she had maintained a close relationship with the children over the years.

He described her as someone who regularly spent time with her grandchildren, while acknowledging that his own relationship with her had been distant.

As investigators continue reviewing forensic evidence, police say they are awaiting additional crime laboratory results before announcing further findings.

The investigation remains active, and authorities have not released additional details beyond those already discussed publicly.
