New DNA Developments Emerge in the Nancy Guthrie Investigation

Investigators continue to make progress in the search for answers in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, as newly analyzed DNA evidence is being reviewed with ᴀssistance from the FBI.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, authorities collected several DNA samples from Guthrie’s home in Tucson, Arizona, including a hair sample that has been submitted for more advanced testing. Investigators hope these analyses may provide additional information that could help move the case forward.
CeCe Moore, an investigative genetic genealogist with Parabon Nanolabs, explained that hair evidence is generally processed separately from mixed DNA samples once contamination is removed. She noted that while these procedures are well established, the process can take time due to the complexity of the analysis.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department emphasized that collaboration with the FBI has been ongoing since the beginning of the investigation.
In a public statement, the department said that evidence has continuously been shared between its private laboratory partners in Florida, the FBI laboratory, and other forensic laboratories across the country. Officials also confirmed that DNA analysis remains active and ongoing.
Earlier in the investigation, authorities submitted DNA samples to the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), a national database used to compare DNA profiles with known offenders. Those searches did not produce any matches.
Investigators also identified a separate mixed and partial DNA sample; however, officials said it was not strong enough at the time to create a complete profile suitable for CODIS analysis.
More than 11 weeks after Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, experts believe the complex sample may contain DNA from three or more individuals. Authorities have previously stated that at least one contributor appears to be male.

Other pieces of evidence have already been examined. Blood found on the front porch was confirmed to belong to Guthrie. Investigators also tested a glove discovered approximately two miles from her home because it resembled gloves worn by a masked individual captured on a doorbell camera.
However, the glove did not provide any significant breakthroughs. It did not match any profiles in the FBI’s CODIS database, nor did it match other DNA samples recovered from inside the residence.
Despite the ongoing uncertainty, investigators and the Guthrie family continue to appeal to the public for ᴀssistance. Authorities have emphasized that even small details could prove valuable as forensic testing continues.
A combined reward exceeding $1.2 million remains available for information connected to the case, including a $1 million contribution from the Guthrie family to support efforts to locate Nancy Guthrie.
As investigators await additional laboratory results, authorities say they remain committed to following every available lead. For Nancy Guthrie’s family, the hope remains that continued forensic analysis and public cooperation will eventually provide the answers they have been seeking.
