“His Eye Started Turning Inward”: Texas Toddler Diagnosed With Rare Eye Cancer After Small Symptom

What began as a subtle change in a toddler’s eye quickly turned into a terrifying medical journey for one Texas family.

Bianca Lawrence of San Antonio says her 3-year-old son Navy’s battle with cancer started with a symptom so small she nearly overlooked it entirely.

His eye began turning inward.

At first, it did not seem alarming. But as the change became more noticeable, Bianca took Navy to the emergency room searching for answers. What doctors discovered would change their family forever.

Navy was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of eye cancer that primarily affects young children.

Now, the toddler is traveling regularly between San Antonio and Houston to receive specialized treatment because there are no local doctors equipped to manage his condition.

Bianca says one of the most heartbreaking moments came when doctors showed her medical scans and explained that Navy’s retina had become completely detached.

“Sitting through conversations like that as a mother is something I will never fully be able to explain,” she shared.

Doctors have recommended that Navy’s twin brother also undergo medical testing because one possible cause of retinoblastoma is a rare genetic mutation. For Bianca, the thought of another child potentially facing the same diagnosis has brought overwhelming fear and uncertainty.
