NFL legend Joe Theismann has proposed a solution amid ever-growing allegations of officials aiding the Kansas City Chiefs toward a third straight тιтle.
With the Chiefs two wins away from a Super Bowl threepeat, the accusations continue to spread on social media after a series of suspicious officiating decisions throughout the season.
In an appearance on OutKick H๏τ Mic on Wednesday, Theismann insisted that every play should be challengeable to double-check contested penalties or missed calls that could impact the outcome of games.
‘The NFL and its.. I was going to call and find out, but quite often we hear officials say that after examination, this is not this and this is not that,’ Theismann said when asked about how the game gets called for Patrick Mahomes.
‘I believe, first of all, that every play should be challengeable,’ Theismann added. ‘Not just a simple menu but every play. Don’t give anybody more challenges. Just make every play challengeable.’
‘And secondly, if it’s viewed upstairs in the booth by the official in the booth, that the officials, who have a tough job anyway, made a mistake on a call, why can’t they correct it immediately? What you’re doing is you’re doing a disservice to the game and a disservice to the fans.’
What if every play in the NFL was challengeable? The guys discussed with @Theismann7. Did he get the same kind of calls as Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs? WATCH ⤵@HuttonOutkick @TheChadWithrow pic.twitter.com/XYpuYp47zn

‘Houston got hosed twice. They did. They just got hosed twice. Now, the official threw what he saw. But if we had the technology to be able to correct it, why don’t we use it?’
While speaking to the media earlier this week, the reigning Super Bowl MVP deflected any validation of the so-called favorable calls.
‘I’ve kind of learned that no matter what happens during the game, that something’s going to come out about it if you win and you continue to win, so I don’t really pay attention to it,’ Mahomes reacted.
‘I mean, obviously I’ve been on both sides of it as far as how I felt the calls were made, but at the end of the day, man, those guys are doing their best to make the best calls and keep it to where the players are making the plays in the game.
‘And that’s what decides the outcome. And obviously, there was a call here or there that people didn’t agree with, but at the same time, I think there was a lot of other plays that really decided the outcome of that football game.’
Speculations about the special treatment from referees floated around early into the season after the Chiefs benefited from a series of questionable calls.
In Week 1, the Chiefs were granted a timeout that should not have counted when defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo ran down the sideline with nine seconds left in the first half. The stoppage was granted despite Andy Reid being the only person allowed to call timeouts in that situation.

The following week, Kansas City benefited from a game-winning pᴀss interference call. While trailing 25-23 against the Bengals, Mahomes launched a pᴀss to Rashee Rice that fell incomplete.
Unfortunately for the Bengals, flags came raining in after the pᴀss was broken up. The referees awarded a pᴀss interference call and gave the Chiefs a chance to kick the game-winning field goal at the last second.
In Week 3, the Chiefs benefited from a no-call against the Falcons. Atlanta trailed the Chiefs 17-22 in the dying minutes when a pᴀss from Kirk Cousins to Kyle Pitts was broken.
After a November win against the Broncos brought the Chiefs’ record to 9-0, footage showed how an illegal contact penalty on Brandon Jones canceled a Nik Bonitto sack on Mahomes just before halftime. The call allowed the Chiefs to extend their drive and inch closer before the break.
The Broncos saw their 14-3 lead reduced to 14-10 in the moment that paved the way for the rest of the game.
