Pentatonix left NFL fans wowed with their rendition of the Star Spangled Banner on Christmas Day.
The acapella group was granted the honor of performing the national anthem ahead of the Houston Texans’ festive matchup against the Baltimore Ravens on December 25, which also saw Beyonce deliver a jaw-dropping halftime show.
The five-part harmony left many inside NRG Stadium impressed as the camera panned to NFL stars, such as CJ Stroud and Lamar Jackson.
And almost a week on, NFL fans are still buzzing about the ‘beautiful and inspiring’ rendition online.
Many fans took to social media to praise the vocalists, leaving rave reviews about the performance.
‘Holy cow! That brought tears to my eyes. Incredible!! Perfect literally perfect,’ one fan gushed on X, formerly known as Twitter.

‘Wow! Goosebumps! Amazing performance by @PTXofficial and God bless America,’ another emotional social media user echoed.
‘Absolutely incredible version of the national anthem,’ a third wrote, while another added, ‘They killed this!’
‘wow… phenomenal national anthem,’ one fan posted among the enthusiastic responses, as another chimed in, saying, ‘Beautiful and inspiring!! Tears in my eyes!!’
Whitney Houston’s rendition at the 1991 Super Bowl has long been hailed as one of the best performances of the Star Spangled Banner.
However, some NFL fans felt that Pentatonix’s version was one of the best since Houston’s iconic performance, and could even rival the pop legend.
‘I thought she was great! I also think Pentatonix’s National Anthem was the best since Whitney did it decades ago,’ one user shared, also referring to Beyonce’s halftime show.
‘Probably one of, if not the best rendition of the national anthem I’ve heard in a very long time,’ another enthused about Pentatonix.
Best since Whitney Houston sang the National Anthem,’ a third agreed. ‘Finally a performance I can get behind! As a veteran and an American who is feeling really uneasy right now, I am so proud! Bravo.’
NFL fans were left in awe by the rendition, calling for them to perform at the Super Bowl
Meanwhile, Pentatonix left some NFL fans so impressed that they called for the group to deliver a repeat performance – on the NFL’s greatest stage.
‘Have them back for the Super Bowl anthem! Perfect,’ one fan urged, while another account appeared to agree calling for the quintet to ‘do every national anthem.’
Pentatonix, currently made up of vocalists Scott Hoying, Mitch Grᴀssi, Kirstin Maldonado, Matt Sallee, and Kevin Olusola, hails from nearby Arlington, Texas. Sallee replaced former member Avi Kaplan as the group’s base in 2017.
The group was formed in 2011 and subsequently won the third season of NBC’s The Sing-Off, going on to win three Grammy Awards. They were even honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last year.
They are traditionally known for their pop-style arrangements with vocal harmonies, and covers or medleys of well-known hits, but have previously performed the national anthem ahead of the 2023 College Football Playoff National Championship.
