🦇💗 THE “BATMAN GIRL” HAS COME SO FAR — AFTER 7 YEARS OF SURGERIES, LUNA IS FINALLY RECLAIMING HER SMILE ✨🙏

When Luna Fenner was born in Florida on March 7, 2019, her parents expected to bring home a healthy baby.

Instead, they were surprised to see a large, dark birthmark stretching across her forehead, nose, and around her eyes.

Doctors diagnosed Luna with a giant congenital melanocytic nevus, a rare condition caused by an overgrowth of pigment-producing cells that develops before birth.

The mark was so distinctive that the media eventually gave Luna a nickname:

The “Batman girl.” 🥺🦇

But to her mother, Carolina “Carol” Fenner, Luna was never a nickname or a birthmark.

She was simply her beautiful little girl. ❤️

Large congenital nevi require careful medical monitoring because they are ᴀssociated with an increased lifetime risk of melanoma. But the medical concerns weren’t the only challenge.

People stared.

Some asked insensitive questions.

And one elderly woman reportedly even called baby Luna a “monster.”

Carol worried about what those reactions would mean when her daughter became old enough to understand them.

Determined to find the best possible treatment, Carol and Luna traveled more than 6,000 miles to Krasnodar, Russia, in 2019 after surgeon Pavel Popov offered a form of pH๏τodynamic therapy that was not then available in the same way in the United States.

An anonymous Russian donor helped cover about $60,000 of their early treatment costs.

By October 2021, Luna had undergone six procedures, and doctors said the pigmented lesion had been largely eliminated.

Then came one of the most beautiful moments of her journey.

Luna began speaking — and proudly declared:

“My black spot has gone. I am a princess.” 👑💗

But removing the nevus was only the beginning.

As Luna grew, scarring and changes in the shape of her face meant she needed additional reconstructive surgery. Her eyelids also could not completely close, creating a functional problem that required treatment.

In 2024, the family traveled to St. Petersburg, where plastic surgeon Olga Filippova and her colleagues began a staged reconstruction using tissue expanders.

These small balloons were placed beneath healthy skin and gradually filled, creating additional skin that could later be used to cover scarred areas.

By 2025, doctors estimated that around 80% of the affected surface had been replaced with smoother skin across Luna’s forehead, cheeks, nose, and one eyelid.

And in July 2026, Luna reached another major milestone.

On July 22, surgeons performed the latest major operation, removing remaining nevus tissue and scars while restoring her hairline and improving the position of her eyelid.

After seven years of procedures, hospital visits, bandages, uncertainty, and countless moments of courage, Luna was finally preparing to return home. 🥹💗

Her journey isn’t completely over.

Doctors say swelling and fresh scars may take a year or two to settle, and Luna could need smaller corrective procedures as she grows. She will also require lifelong monitoring by a dermatologist-oncologist.

But her story has already become about so much more than surgery.

For years, people noticed the mark on Luna’s face before they noticed the little girl behind it.

Her mother has spent those same years reminding the world that there was always a child behind the birthmark.

A child who laughs.

A child who dreams.

A child who wants to be seen for who she truly is. ❤️
