🥺💙 BORN WITHOUT EYES, LITTLE RUDY IS TEACHING HIS FAMILY THAT THERE’S MORE THAN ONE WAY TO SEE THE WORLD 👶✨

When Beth Fair-Lawton welcomed her second son into the world in early 2025, she expected to take home a healthy baby boy.

Nothing during her pregnancy had warned her that something was different. 💙

But after Rudy was born by C-section in Salford, he still hadn’t opened his eyes after three days.

At first, Beth was told that some newborns simply take a little time to open their eyes.

But a mother’s instincts are powerful.

Beth knew something wasn’t right. 🥺

Doctors eventually performed further scans — and the results changed everything.

Rudy had been born with bilateral anophthalmia, an extremely rare condition in which the eyes do not develop before birth. He was also born without optic nerves. 💔👶

The diagnosis was devastating for his family.

Genetic testing later revealed a mutation in one of Rudy’s SOX2 genes, which plays an important role in eye development. The mutation was also ᴀssociated with moderate hearing loss. Rudy has experienced swallowing difficulties and has needed tube feeding. 🏥❤️‍🩹

Beth even spent her 30th birthday in the hospital beside her little boy.

After 19 days, Rudy was finally able to go home.

But life at home became a new journey of learning, therapy, appointments, and discovering different ways for Rudy to experience the world. 💙

He wears small plastic devices called conformers, which help maintain the shape of his eye sockets as his face grows and keep the possibility of prosthetic eyes open in the future.

And despite everything, Rudy keeps moving forward.

At 16 months old, he was getting up on all fours, clapping his hands, swaying to music, and smiling constantly. 🥹💗

When he is separated from his mother, he reaches toward her face with both hands, making sure she is there.

When he is carried outside, he turns toward the sunlight.

He is discovering his surroundings — just in his own unique way. 🌤️💙

And perhaps no one explains Rudy’s world better than his big brother, Jax.

When adults struggle to explain Rudy’s condition, the three-year-old has a simple answer:

Rudy can’t open his eyes, but he can see with his hands. 🥺❤️

That beautiful perspective says so much.

Rudy is learning to understand his home through touch, sound, movement, and the people who love him most.

His family has been working to provide the tools that can help him become more independent, including Braille technology, adapted computers, hearing-aid equipment, and therapy equipment. 💻🤲✨

But beyond the medical appointments and equipment, there is simply a little boy growing up surrounded by love.

A little brother.

A son.

A child who loves music, smiles constantly, reaches for his mother’s face, and is discovering the world one touch at a time. 🌈💗

Rudy’s story reminds us that seeing isn’t only about using our eyes.

Sometimes, we see through our hands.

Through sound.

Through touch.

And most of all, through love. ❤️
