During a Georgetown County hearing, a magistrate denied bond to both parents, who face allegations of unlawfully placing a child at risk and willful abandonment. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding Saylor’s disappearance from the family’s vacation property on Pawleys Island. A key part of the investigation is the Project Lifesaver transmitter Saylor had been using because of her history of wandering. Authorities said the device was not with her when she disappeared, and the arrest affidavit states that it had been removed before the family left Virginia. Exactly when and by whom it was removed remains unclear.
A preliminary autopsy also added another important piece to the investigation. The Georgetown County Coroner reported pulmonary edema, consistent with drowning, while the final cause of d#ath remains pending. Saylor was found wearing a bathing suit with a strap around her ankle that appeared similar to a child’s wrist tether.
