Tyson Hafen was supposed to be preparing for the arrival of a new baby with his wife, Rebeca.
Instead, he is now facing the unimaginable task of grieving both his wife and their newborn son while helping their children cope with the loss of their mother and baby brother.
Rebeca was about seven months pregnant when she was struck by a car during a morning walk near the family’s home outside Moroni, Utah.
She was rushed to the hospital, but her injuries proved fatal.
Doctors were able to deliver the couple’s baby boy in an emergency. Their son was then taken to the neonatal intensive care unit, where medical teams fought to save his life.
For a short time, the family had something to hold onto: hope.
They waited and prayed that their tiny son would survive.
But another devastating loss followed.
The newborn baby died.
Before he pα΄ssed away, Tyson and the children were able to hold him, love him and say goodbye.
In the space of just days, the family went from preparing to welcome a new member to preparing for two funerals.
For Tyson, the losses are almost impossible to comprehend.
He lost Rebeca, his wife of 14 years, and then their newborn son.
His children lost their mother and the baby brother they had been waiting to meet.

Yet amid the grief, Tyson has remembered the way Rebeca lived her life.
He told KSL that she embraced life with joy and made the most of every moment.
βShe loved every minute,β he told KSL 5 TV.
The family says they find comfort in believing that Rebeca and their baby are together again.
That belief cannot erase the pain, but it gives them something to hold onto as they face the days ahead.
And those days will not be easy.
Tyson now has to mourn his wife and son while also helping his children understand two enormous losses. He must somehow navigate funeral arrangements, family responsibilities and a future that suddenly looks completely different from the one they had imagined.
What should have been a season of excitement β preparing for a baby’s arrival and watching their family grow β instead became a devastating farewell.
The family has been asking for prayers, scripture and words of comfort.
So please remember Tyson.
Pray for the father who is grieving two people he loves while still trying to be the father his children need.
Pray for the children who lost their mother and baby brother within days of each other.
And pray that this family finds strength to take one day, one moment and one breath at a time. πβ€οΈ
