Neighbors who lived near Lindsay Clancy’s former home in Duxbury have shared memories of changes they say they noticed before the January 2023 tragedy.

Some residents recalled Lindsay as a mother who had once appeared to be part of an ordinary family life, but said they later noticed changes in her behavior and appearance. One neighbor described her as seeming very different from the person they remembered.

The accounts have drawn renewed attention because Lindsay’s defense has argued that she was experiencing a severe psychiatric crisis in the period leading up to the deaths of her three children.

Some neighbors have also expressed the view that Lindsay’s mental-health condition should be treated as an important part of understanding what happened, rather than looking only at punishment.

Their recollections raise a difficult question: were there warning signs that something was seriously wrong, and could earlier recognition or intervention have changed what happened?

Those questions remain central to the case as the jury weighs the evidence surrounding Lindsay’s mental state and her legal responsibility.
