Nearly six months after 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, Arizona, investigators are still searching for answers. The high-profile case has continued to draw national attention, with new comments from FBI Director Kash Patel highlighting concerns about the early stages of the investigation and the preservation of crucial digital evidence.

In an interview published on July 23, 2026, Patel said the FBI was prepared to ᴀssist from the very beginning but was not fully brought into the investigation by Pima County authorities until four days after Nancy Guthrie vanished. According to Patel, that delay may have significantly reduced investigators’ ability to recover additional footage from the home’s Google Nest doorbell camera.

Federal agents later secured the residence again and collected additional evidence, including other security devices that could ᴀssist the investigation.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has previously responded to similar concerns by noting that an FBI task force member was present during the early stages of the investigation.
