💙🙏 “Shaye Needs This Surgery Because I Need Shaye”: Mom Shares Son’s Heartbreaking Journey After Years Of Fighting
For nearly five years, Laci made one promise to herself — she would protect her son’s story.
She never wanted the world to see Shaye only during the most difficult moments of his life. She worried that one day he might grow up and find images of himself during his sickest days shared across the internet.
So she kept his journey private.
Until now.
Laci says she reached a moment no parent ever wants to face. Asking strangers for help has been one of the hardest things she has ever done, but she says her 5-year-old son’s future depends on it.
Shaye, a twin from Oklahoma, was born with an extremely rare and complex heart condition known as Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia and severe MAPCAs.
His fight began from the very first day of his life.
Over the past five years, Shaye has endured a medical journey filled with challenges most children never experience. He has undergone multiple open-heart surgeries, heart catheterization procedures, required a feeding tube, suffered a brain bleed, and gone through a craniotomy and complete reconstruction of his skull.
Through every obstacle, Shaye has continued showing incredible strength.
Now, after years of medical battles, doctors believe he may finally be ready for a specialized surgery that could change his future.
But the procedure cannot be performed close to home.
The surgeon Shaye needs is located nearly 1,500 miles away at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford in California. Laci says her family will need to relocate for approximately a month so Shaye can undergo the operation and receive close monitoring afterward.
She says she spent time hoping there would be another option closer to home.
But for Shaye, this specialist is the best chance.
Now, Laci is asking for support — not because she wants attention, but because she wants her little boy to have the opportunity to grow up.
One sentence from her message captures the depth of a mother’s love:
“Shaye needs this surgery because I need Shaye.”
She also shared the bond that makes this journey even more emotional.
“More importantly… his brother needs him.”
As Shaye prepares for this next major step, his family is asking for prayers — for safe travel, for wisdom and skill for the medical team, and for a successful surgery that can give this little boy a brighter future.
After five years of fighting, Laci hopes this moment will become the beginning of a new chapter — one filled with more birthdays, more memories, and more time together as a family. 💙
Please keep Shaye and everyone who loves him in your thoughts and prayers as they continue this journey
