💔 “He Covered Her With His Own Body”: A Love That Ended in a Moment of Violence at a Milwaukee Stoplight
A tragic shooting in Milwaukee has left a young family shattered after a 22-year-old man was killed while trying to protect his pregnant girlfriend during a sudden attack at a stoplight in 2019. 🕊️
According to court records and witness accounts, Jose Rodriguez-Castro and his pregnant girlfriend, Lexi Rivera, were sitting together in their vehicle on the south side of Milwaukee near 27th Street and Forest Home Avenue on what appeared to be an ordinary afternoon. The couple had been holding hands moments before the incident, unaware of what was about to unfold. 😢
Authorities say a black Porsche SUV pulled up alongside them at the intersection. The driver was identified as 23-year-old Victor Cintron Jr., the father of Lexi’s unborn child from a previous relationship. Reports indicate that the relationship between Lexi and Cintron had been strained, with allegations of prior threats and violence leading to legal action and separation.
Investigators say that without warning, gunfire erupted into the vehicle occupied by Jose and Lexi. 🚨
In those critical seconds, Jose reportedly reacted instinctively. According to Lexi’s later statement, he turned toward her and used his own body as a shield, pulling her closer and covering her to protect her from the incoming sH๏τs. 💔
Witness accounts and medical reports confirm that Jose was struck multiple times and died as a result of his injuries at the scene. Lexi survived the attack with a non-fatal injury, and her unborn child also survived. 🕊️
The suspect fled the scene following the shooting. Law enforcement later located him in California after a multi-state search, where he was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals. He was arrested without further incident.
In December 2021, Victor Cintron Jr. was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after serving 50 years for first-degree intentional homicide and attempted homicide.
In the years following the tragedy, Lexi has spoken about Jose’s final act of courage. She described him as someone who had repeatedly expressed his willingness to protect her at any cost.
“He said he would lay his life down for me,” she shared. 🕊️
On that day at a Milwaukee stoplight, investigators say he did exactly that.
A moment of love. A moment of instinct. And a sacrifice that changed three lives forever. ❤️
