💔🎆 Family Remembers 16-Year-Old Avante Weldon After Fourth Of July Crash Ends His Life Too Soon

A holiday night that was supposed to be filled with fireworks and family memories has become a heartbreaking reminder of a life lost too soon.

The family of 16-year-old Avante Weldon is mourning after a Fourth of July crash in Marion County, Ohio, claimed the teenager’s life.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened July 4 on Likens-Chapel Road in Marion Township. Authorities said Avante was standing behind his family’s parked vehicle when another driver struck the back of the car while the family was stopped along the road watching fireworks.

Avante’s family said the teenager had stepped outside the vehicle to record a TikTok video — a simple moment that was never meant to become their final memory of him.

Today, flowers, a cross, and the number 16 mark the location where Avante’s life ended.

For his family, the memorial represents more than a tragic scene. It represents a young man they describe as kind, joyful, and unforgettable.

His sister, Tozanai Barron-Gray, said there are not enough words to explain who her younger brother was.

“I could read the dictionary back and there’s not enough words,” she said. “He’s every good word, he’s every good feeling, he’s every good thing.”

To those who loved him, Avante was never just a name in a crash report. He was a son, a brother, and someone whose presence brought happiness to the people around him.

His older brother, Alyric Weldon, spoke about the special connection they shared.

“He did everything with me,” Alyric said. “He ended up being me, but all the best parts of what a person could be.”

The family says the sudden loss has been impossible to comprehend. One moment, Avante was enjoying a holiday evening with the people he loved. The next, they were facing a devastating tragedy.

Investigators identified the driver accused in the crash as Timothy Best of Marion. Authorities said Best was impaired at the time of the collision and that his blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit.

Best has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular homicide. Court documents also allege he was driving with a suspended license. Records show he had previously been convicted in a separate OVI case in 2024.

For Avante’s family, the pain is made even harder by the belief that the crash could have been prevented.

Barron-Gray said she wants accountability and hopes the outcome of the case prevents another family from experiencing similar heartbreak.

“I don’t want him to get to do this to anybody else,” she said.

As the legal process continues, Avante’s loved ones are left remembering the teenager he was — and mourning the future he should have had.

He should have had more birthdays, more laughter, more videos, and more moments with his family.
