But there is still one major obstacle between Jackson and home: his family needs nurses.

Many people first met Jackson last December, when he was a tiny premature baby weighing just over 2 pounds. At that time, his parents, Zoe and Jonathan, were celebrating every small victory while hoping their son would grow strong enough for doctors to eventually remove his breathing tube.

They were still waiting for the moment they would hear their baby cry for the very first time.

Months later, Jackson’s story has taken a hopeful turn.

His mother, Zoe, recently shared an update showing just how far her little boy has come. Jackson’s lungs are continuing to grow and become stronger, giving his family new reason to believe that home may finally be within reach.

This week, Jackson underwent a PEEP тιтration, a test that helps his medical team determine how much pressure his ventilator needs to keep his lungs open. According to Zoe, doctors believe they may be able to safely reduce his support from 15 to 12 over the next few weeks.

For Jackson’s family, that is more than a number.

It represents progress.

And there is an even bigger milestone ahead: Jackson is preparing to go home for the first time in his life.

His parents expect to complete all of their required training by the end of this month. They are learning how to care for his trach, ventilator, feeding tube and the other complex medical needs he will have outside the hospital.

But completing their training is only part of the journey.

Jackson cannot be discharged until enough private-duty nurses are available to provide the care he needs at home.

That has become one of the biggest challenges facing his family.

Zoe says medically complex children can sometimes remain hospitalized long after their families are ready to bring them home simply because there are not enough qualified nurses available to provide the necessary support.

Think about that for a moment.

Last December, Jackson’s parents were celebrating tiny increases in his weight and praying that his lungs would become strong enough for the next step.

Now, they are preparing his home, completing medical training and imagining what it will feel like to finally bring their son through their own front door.

The little boy who once weighed barely more than 2 pounds has already done an incredible amount of fighting.

Now his family is asking for help with the final stretch.

They need people with the appropriate qualifications who are willing to learn Jackson’s care and help provide the nursing support required for him to safely come home.

For everyone who prayed for Jackson when he was still so incredibly tiny, this is another moment to keep those prayers going. 🙏
